If you have decided to enter into a trade school to get an exclusive training that is related to the field of your choice, you have to meet some requirements for admission. Generally, high school diplomas and standardized placement tests are the most common requirements that people must meet to enter into a trade school.
  • High School Diploma
    People who want to study at a trade or vocational school are required to possess a high school diploma or an equivalent. In case they don't possess a high school diploma, a GED (General Education Diploma) will be also accepted for admission. Depending on the program that students choose, they can be asked to achieve a minimum 2.0 grade point average. If students have gotten lower grades in high school, they can take a test in order to be accepted in trade schools.

  • What is a GED test?
    A GED is a group of five tests about different subjects such as social studies, writing, mathematics, science and interpreting literature and arts. If students pass the test, it certifies they have acquired a level of learning that is comparable to American or Canadian high school.

  • Standardized Placement Test
    Another requirement that students must meet to enter into a trade school is the completion of one or more standardized placement tests. Most trade and technical schools use the Career Programs Assessment Test for admission. Sometimes, schools define a minimum score for these exams. The reached score determines if a student has the basic skills in fields such as reading, writing, mathematics, etc. It can also help to identify the program that is the best for the student. The American College Test is another standardized placement exam that trade schools consider and accept for enrollment.
Besides the aforementioned requirements that most trade schools ask to students, it is also important that students have some experience in the field that they want to follow.
